EKU Center for the Arts Student Matinee Series

The EKU Center for the Arts has a great education and outreach program for students of all ages. The Student Matinee Series is designed for classrooms to enjoy together and includes supporting curriculum matierials. Tickets for each show are $6 each (every 21st ticket is free) and reservations can be made online anytime at http://ekucenter.com/student-matinee-reservations.

The beloved Newbery Honor book, MY FATHER'S DRAGON, about a resourceful boy named Elmer comes delightfully to life in this charming tale about compassion, courage and friendship. Join Elmer as he sets off on a daring adventure to rescue a baby dragon who's being held captive by the ferocious animals of Wild Island. With pluck and ingenuity Elmer makes his way to the Island, outwits the wild animals and saves Boris, the dragon. But can they find their way back home? Using puppets, masks, magical scenic effects and original music, Enchantment Theatre Company brings Elmer's marvelous quest to the stage, with an adventure that reminds us all that we are never too young to make a difference.

A perennial holiday favorite returns to the EKU Center in an enchanting production that will be treasured by students and teachers alike. Presented by Lexington Ballet Company and set to the timeless music of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, THE NUTCRACKER tells the delightful story of a little girl who is given a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. She encounters the frightful rat king before embarking on a journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. Lexington Ballet Company performs this beautiful masterpiece under the artistic direction of Luis Dominguez. It’s a production sure to put you in the Christmas spirit!

This celebrated adaptation by Charles Jones of Charles Dickens’ A CHRISTMAS CAROL is rich with thrilling ensemble music, alive with color and movement and is created to tell this great and enduring tale in a manner that people of all ages will enjoy. Woven throughout this classic story are beautiful new arrangements and moving renditions of holiday songs, such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Wassail Wassail,” “Good Christian Men Rejoice,” “Away In A Manger,” “Greensleeves,” “The Boar’s Head Carol” and many more. Featuring a cast of 24 performers, live musicians, and Broadway-style scenery and costumes, audiences everywhere cherish this sumptuous holiday production.

ArcAttack Promo

Part rock concert, part science experiment the creators of ArcAttack unveil the science behind the spectacle. Combining their love of music with science the group invites the audience to explore concepts such as electricity, voltage and current, magnetism, robotics, and lightning through a show that’s both entertaining and interactive.

 

The audience is engaged from start to finish as the groups trusty, completely automated robot drummer King Beat introduces the audience to the show. The show features their signature tesla coils as members of the group literally walk through lightning, then invite members of the audience on stage to take part in a special faraday cage dance off!
