Boonesborough Elementary School has its first-ever principal. Superintendent Elmer Thomas selected Dr. Shelly Boulden to serve as the first principal of the district’s newest elementary school.
“We are very proud to announce Dr. Shelly Boulden as the first principal at Boonesborough Elementary,” Thomas said. “Her leadership and instructional expertise will certain be valuable in the opening of a new school.”
Dr. Boulden currently serves as principal of Madison Kindergarten Academy. MKA opened under Dr. Boulden’s direction in the fall of 2014. Dr. Boulden served as the principal of Mayfield Elementary prior to the opening of Madison Kindergarten Academy. Prior to Mayfield Elementary, she was Professional Staff Assistant at Squires Elementary in Fayette County Public Schools.
Dr. Boulden has been an educator for 22 years, serving as an elementary teacher from 1995 to 2003, a Reading First reading coach from 2003 to 2006, a Kindergarten through 5th Grade Literacy Coach from 2006 to 2009, and as Professional Staff Assistant from 2009 to 2013. Boulden received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Kentucky; her Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Kentucky; and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Eastern Kentucky University. She also became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2001 as an Early Childhood Generalist. Boulden was awarded the “Teacher Who Made a Difference” by the University of Kentucky in 2007.
“Dr. Boulden has been a great asset to the district and we will continue to lean on her as we go through the process of opening a new elementary school,” Thomas said.
Boonesborough Elementary is scheduled to open in August 2018 and is located on Boonesborough Road in northern Madison County.
