Foley Middle School is excited to announce the sixth grade visual art students are participating with the 2018 International Student Art Exchange Program. This program is a part of the Sister City Region Artist exchange between Yatsugatake, Japan and Madison County. The Madison County International Committee (MCIC) offers Madison County middle school students the wonderful, unique opportunity to interact with students from Hokuto City, Japan through art.
Melissa Metcalf, science teacher at Foley and the Homestay Coordinator for MCIC, brought this unique opportunity to Patricia Weiner, Foley's visual art teacher and her sixth grade students. With the theme "The Beauty of Nature", the class decided to work on a project with fall leaves as the subject matter. The students planned their designs and transferred them onto a foam relief printing plate. Prints were mass produced with the ink hues of yellow and orange, red and orange, yellow and green, and blue and green. Students then created a collage of the prints.
The artwork will travel to Japan with a Madison County delegate and be on display until May, then a Japanese delegate will return the works when they travel here to visit with Madison County schools. We are excited and honored to be a part of this wonderful cultural experience.
