Kit Carson students get real world math experience at Kroger

Kit Carson Elementary hosted the a math scavenger hunt at Kroger Marketplace on October 8. Math Interventionist Jennifer Martin collaborated with Kroger store manager Lewis Feese to create an event that would bring real world connections to students in math.

Parents and children came to the Starbucks area kiosk to receive their scavenger hunt sheets that had them tracking prices, counting eggs, converting measurement, and using division to solve unit prices.

One parent noted, “I was a calculus student in high school, but this is the real math that I do every day. I’m glad he is getting to see math this way.”

Kit Carson’s PTO also helped with the event by providing fun give-aways as well as Kroger donating to the event.

Lewis Feese stated, “I love math! I’m glad we could help Kit Carson with this event and help make it successful!”
