On January 23, Dr. Marla Ashe- Associate Professor of Business-Midway College spoke to Middle College –Eastern Kentucky University high school students about the importance of soft skills in a competitive job market. She shared the top 10 soft skills the students must develop to secure a job. Dr. Ashe reinforced the importance of soft skill in attaining their career goals- through scholarly research, personal testimonies, demonstration, and practical application of the top soft skills.
Stephanie Smith, History and English Instructor at Middle College stated “The students were completely engaged in Dr. Ashe’s discussion. She provided real life examples that I will incorporate in my class discussion.” John Fields- Principal of Middle College stated “Dr. Ashe did an over-the-top outstanding job and we (Middle College- EKU) are looking forward to working with her, and Midway College Enactus team in the future.”
Middle College is a unique, collaborative program between Madison County School District and Eastern Kentucky University. The students of Middle College- EKU have the option of pursing university credits, and career training and development while completing their high school diploma. The goal of Middle College is to unite a community of high school learners through a solid foundation of college preparedness and job readiness courses; while having the students exposed to a variety of academic and career opportunities.
