The Berea Festival Dancers visited Foley Middle School in May to share their wonderful talents of folk dancing. The group consists of middle and high school dancers from the local area and is directed by Theresa Lowder of Berea College. Their performances include a variety of traditional English and American dances, along with dances from Denmark, Ireland, and other countries.
The dancers’ costumes are handmade and designed in styles of the dances’ time periods. They perform at schools, historical centers, festivals, and various other places and events in the region. Foley students were able to observe several dances and asked to join in on quite a few. They were awed at how elaborate some of the dances were and the gracefulness of the dancers.
