Madison County Schools named Outstanding Training Department

The Madison County Schools Transportation Department received an unexpected honor June 25 at the 21st annual Pupil Transportation Conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville. The Madison County Schools Training Department, within Madison County Schools Transportation Department, received highest accolades from the Kentucky Department of Education. The “Top Overall Training Department” title was bestowed upon the group.

Led by Head Instructor Dana Clark, this group was selected from 173 other school districts statewide. A lengthy selection process was used by the state in making the selection. Kentucky Department of Education officials stated that no nominations are taken by the Department in the selection process. Committees are set in place and all aspects of school districts training are examined by state staff. The Kentucky Department of Education performed on-site visits to finalists throughout the year. In the case of Madison County Schools, staff from KDE made numerous on-site visits to the Madison County Schools Transportation Department.

According to one Kentucky Department of Education official numerous visits were made to inspect and observe the Madison County Schools training department because the reports were so positive that other state personnel were dispatched to see if it was possible that the Madison County Schools Training Department was performing at the initially reported level. This same official stated that the Kentucky Department of Education had not witnessed a higher performing training department.

The Madison County Schools Training Department is composed of ten Driver Training Instructors. These instructors are:

Dana Clark- Head Instructor, Annette Caudill, Patricia Hoskins, Teresa Masters, John Middleton, Rachel Quinley, Elaine Standiford, Grace Stone, Kathy Thompson and AngieSmith.

This department is responsible for all aspects of transportation training including school bus driver initial training, annual driver recertification training, driver ongoing observations and evaluations, organization and oversight of student evacuation drills, student safety trainings for all students and post- accident investigations to name a few areas of responsibility.

Congratulations to Madison County Schools, their Transportation Department and in particular the “Top Overall Training Department” in the Commonwealth, the Madison County Schools Training Department.
