Madison County Schools Superintendent Elmer Thomas announced Thursday evening that Shelly Boulden will serve as principal of the Richmond-area kindergarten academy beginning next school year. Boulden is currently principal at Mayfield Elementary.
Boulden previously served as Professional Staff Assistant at Squires Elementary in Fayette County Public Schools. She has been an educator for 18 years, serving as an elementary teacher from 1995 to 2003, a Reading First reading coach from 2003 to 2006, a Kindergarten through 5th Grade Literacy Coach from 2006 to 2009, and as Professional Staff Assistant from 2009 to 2013. Boulden received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Kentucky; her Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Kentucky; and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Eastern Kentucky University. She also became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2001 as an Early Childhood Generalist. Boulden was awarded the “Teacher Who Made a Difference” by the University of Kentucky in 2007.
