Clark-Moores students participate in penny war fundraiser

Last week, the Renaissance and PTO at Clark-Moores Middle School held a "Torture Your Teacher" penny war. Old fashioned penny war rules were used. Each penny brought in and placed in a teacher's bucket counted as one point.. Each piece of silver coin or paper bill counted as negative points. Five teachers agreed to be "tortured" if they won the competition.

Life skills teacher Billie Kelly agreed to bake brownies for the entire school. Science teacher Troy Blankenship - a die-hard Louisville fan - agreed to wear UK apparel for a week. Science teacher Matt Burns, who loves the Pittsburgh Steelers, agreed to wear Dallas Cowboys apparel. Social Studies teacher Sharon Graves, who "taxes" eighth graders as part of an Economics lesson, agreed to halt taxes for three days. Ultimately, the winner was Assistant Principal Mike Reister who agreed to dress as a woman for a day.

The students really enjoyed the competition and some were saving their pennies until the last possible moment to ensure the teacher they wanted would win. The staff and students hope to make this an annual event.
