Graduations begin tonight

Congratulations to the Class of 2015 from Madison Central High School and Madison Southern High School! Madison Central's graduation will take place tonight at 7 p.m. Madison Southern's graduation will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies will be held at Alumni Coliseum on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.

Three district positions filled

Madison County Schools is pleased to announce the names of individuals selected to fill three vacant district positions. Congratulations to Mark Woods, Director of Financial Services; Scott Anderson, Director of Food Services; and Steve Evans, District Assessment Coordinator.



SENIORS: Important Graduation Info

Seniors should take note of the following dates:

  • Friday, May 1 - Pick up graduation announcements, invitations, etc. during lunch in concession stand in Health Bldg lobby
  • Thursday, May 7 - Pick up caps/gowns during lunch in concession stand in Health Bldg lobby
  • Thursday, May 28 - Mandatory graduation practice in HB gym at 8:05 AM
  • Friday, May 29 - Mandatory graduation practice at EKU.  Seniors must board buses at MCHS at 8:05 AM.  Students may not drive to EKU.  Practice will end at approximately 11:30 AM.

All students who wish to walk at EKU must attend both practices.   All students (except officers) will ride the bus to EKU practice.

The Madison Central High School Graduation Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 29, 7:00 PM at Alumni Coliseum, Eastern KY University.

MCHS Math Camp for Algebra I Students

Madison Central AmeriCorps tutors will be hosting a Math Camp from June 9-12, 2015 (8:00-12:00). It is a free service and we would love to help your student become more confident in math and to better help them prepare for the ACT. Volunteer Confidentiality Training for 2015-16

Click here for the 2015-16 volunteer confidentiality training schedule.  All trainings will be presented by the School FRYSC.


Volunteer recertification letters (lavender color) were mailed last week from the MCBE.  These letters must be returned to the Youth Services Center or MCBE as soon as possible in order to remain on the volunteer certification list for next year.

Monday, June 1, is half day for students

Monday, June 1, 2015, is the final day of classes for students in Madison County Schools. It will be a "half day." Dismissal for the last day of school will be 3 hours prior to regular dismissal time.

Class of 1980 Reunion



The Class of 1980 will be having their 35th Class Reunion on Saturday, September 12, 2015.

GEAR UP Permission Slips

Sophomores that received permission slips for the June 2nd Morehead State University trip  need to return them to the GEAR UP office as soon as possible. Don't forget we only have 25 slots.  Please keep the included note for important details.


Freshmen that received the mentoring field trip permission slips need to return them to Ms. Cecil as soon as possible.  

2015 MCHS Volleyball Basic Skills Camp

MCHS Volleyball will host a skills camp June 1-3 from 5:00-8:00 PM nightly for girls in grades 2-10.  Cost is $45.  Click here for application.

Summer Family College Tour

GEAR UP is offering a "Summer Family College Tour" for rising sophomores and juniors to Western Kentucky University and University of Louisville June 25-26. This will be an overnight trip and parents/guardians are invited to attend with the student. Space will be limited; please contact us by May 29 if you would like to attend.

Underclassmen Finals

Underclassmen Finals are as follows:

  • Thursday, May 28 - periods 3, 5
  • Friday, May 29 - periods 2, 4, 6
  • Monday, June 1 - period 1


NO FINALS MAY BE GIVEN EARLY.  If a student will not be here during finals arrangements must be made to take the finals during the teacher work week of June 1st – June 4th.

Final Exams for Seniors

All seniors will take finals for all class periods on Wednesday, May 27th.


May 27th is the deadline for all F/F, NS, and online Edgenuity credits.  Seniors wishing to participate in graduation must have credits completed by the end of May 27th at 6:30 p.m.


Senior grades will be POSTED by Thursday, May 28th at 10:00 a.m. (Hard deadline)

UK Engineering Opportunity for Female Students

The Women’s Programs & Recruitment for the University of Kentucky College of Engineering is excited to share a great event opportunity.  This summer we will be offering a series of fun and educational workshops covering a variety of engineering topics.  The program is targeted toward young women (rising sophomore – senior) who want to gain exposure to engineering through hands-on activities/projects in a collegiate environment.

There are six different workshops available and students can learn more about each one and register for a variety of dates via our website:

Students will attend workshops on UK’s campus throughout June and July working in engineering labs and learning from engineering faculty and graduate students so this is also a great opportunity for them to get a feel for UK!

MCS archers raise $4,500 for charity

Madison Southern High School hosted archers from throughout the county and together they raised $4,500 in the 5th annual Judy Rogers Shoot for the Cure Archery Tournament. More than 350 archers from Kirksville Elementary, Waco Elementary, Glenn Marshall Elementary, White Hall Elementary, Shannon Johnson Elementary, Clark-Moores Middle, Caudill Middle, Farristown Middle, Madison Central High, and Madison Southern High were able to raise the funds that will be donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and Hospice Care Plus. In the 5 years of the tournament, students have raised more than $30,000 for these two charities.

Board approves 2015-2016 school year calendar

The Madison County Board of Education approved the district's 2015-2016 school year calendar at its regular meeting April 16. The calendar can be viewed or printed by clicking HERE.

Graduation dates and times

Graduation times have been set! Madison Central High graduation will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 29. Madison Southern High graduation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30. Both ceremonies will take place at Alumni Coliseum.

MCHS teacher selected as PBS Learning Innovator

Susan Cintra, a sophomore English teacher and Yearbook advisor at Madison Central High School, has been named a 2015 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator.  Cintra is among a diverse group of 100 tech-savvy educators from across the country selected for her passion and commitment to innovative teaching practices that integrate digital media and technology in the classroom.

University of Louisville Scholarship

Apply for the Balanced Man Scholarship Director for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at the University of Louisville. Our fraternity is dedicated to building gentlemen that prioritize grades, involvement, and service. I would greatly appreciate it if you would give the LINK to our online scholarship to all of your male Seniors that plan on attending the University of Louisville. There will be over $5,000 worth of scholarships given out this year, and winners will be selected based upon their excellence in academics, service, and leadership. EKU NOW! Application

Any student planning to take an EKU NOW!!! dual credit class next year must complete the online application which  is open for you to start applying as of April 1! Please go to then “How to Apply” and follow the instructions.

You will also need to turn in  the tuition acknowledgement form, signed by your parent or guardian, to your counselor. The tuition acknowledgement is attached or you may pick them up in the guidance office.  Click here for document.

The application deadline is June 15, 2015.

Board approves calendar for 2014-2015 end of school

The Madison County Board of Education voted to approve the final calendar for the 2014-2015 school year. The last day of school for students will be Monday, June 1, 2015. Graduation dates were also set by the Board. Madison Central High School graduates will have their ceremony on Friday, May 29. Madison Southern High School graduates will have their ceremony on Saturday, May 30. Both ceremonies will be held at Eastern Kentucky University's Alumni Coliseum. The times for those ceremonies will be announced soon.
