Thursday, Jan. 18, will be NTI Day #5 for Madison County Schools. 

This will also be a staff work day. All staff please report to your building.

Some activities, meetings, and events have been cancelled because of the weather. We will continue to add to this list throughout the day as cancellations are made available to us. The cancellations are also posted on the district's social media sites.

  • All elementary school academic team matches today are cancelled.
  • Madison Central High School SBDM meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled.
  • Clark-Moores Middle School SBDM meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled. The meeting is rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 4 p.m.
  • Shannon Johnson Elementary SBDM meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled.
  • Farristown Middle School SBDM meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled. The meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m.
  • B. Michael Caudill Middle School has cancelled all activities for today. The SBDM meeting has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 4:30 p.m.

Next Step College Fair

Consolidated Baptist Church & The University Experience will host Next Step College Fair on February 10, 2018, from 10:00 AM thru 1:00 PM.  Over 20 colleges from around the region will be represented.  Student & parent workshops on financial aid and scholarships will be available.  Location: Consolidated Baptist Church, 1625 Russell Cave Road, Lexington, KY.  Additional information may be found at www.consolidatedbaptist.org.

  • All cancellations will be announced officially by the district on this website as well as on the district's official social media sites - Facebook and Twitter. If you see a cancellation and are uncertain of its validity, please check the district's website or social media sites.
  • If the district chooses to have an NTI day (non-traditional instruction), that information will also be announced on the district's website and official social media sites.
  • Students should have received NTI packets and information from their schools. If that information has not been made available to your child, please contact his or her teacher or the school's office.
  • If the district elects to delay the start of school, that information will be announced on the district's website and official social media sites. Information about a delay can be found on the district's website under the "District Information" tab on the left side of the page.
Clark Energy Trip to DC Available

Clark Energy is awarding four High School Juniors from Kentucky all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC in June 2018.   The applicant’s parents or legal guardians must have an active residential or business account with Clark Energy.  Applications are available in the Guidance Office at Madison Central High School.  The deadline to submit an application is February 23, 2018.

The Murray State Honors Academy is a great option for students who have not been accepted in the GSP program. Information may be found in this flyer.

Madison Central English Teacher Wins Chamber of Commerce Award

Chris Harrell, a high school English teacher at Madison Central High School (Madison County), has been named the 2017 Richmond Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year. He was honored at the annual Chamber of Commerce awards banquet on November 2, 2017.

Chris graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education in 2007 and a Masters in English, specializing in Rhetoric and Composition, in 2009. He has nine years of experience in education, all at Madison Central, and currently teaches AP English Language and Composition and Dual Credit English 101/102.

Madison Central Chemistry Teacher Wins KSTA Award

Elizabeth Howard, a high school chemistry teacher at Madison Central High School (Madison County), has been named the 2017 Kentucky Science Teacher Association (KSTA) High School Teacher of the Year.  Howard was honored at the annual KSTA conference on November 10, 2017 in Lexington. 

Howard has seven years of experience in education, teaching chemistry, integrated science, and environmental science in Central Kentucky.  Elizabeth graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Science Education.  She earned a Master of Education from Georgetown College.  Elizabeth will graduate in May 2018 with a Master of Science in Chemistry from Eastern Kentucky University writing her internship-based project over evaluating the efficacy of Modeling Instruction™ in the high school chemistry classroom.  Elizabeth has presented her research at the American Chemical Society national convention hosted in San Francisco and was awarded the Dr. Harry Smiley Memorial Graduate Award from Eastern Kentucky University.

ACT Review Course

The Sullivan University ACT review is held on the Saturday & Sunday one week prior to the National ACT test date.  Lunch is provided.  The cost for both days is $80.  Lunch & a study guide with CD are included.  Register here.

Silver Creek teacher named KMEA State Teacher of the Year Shannon Abney

The Kentucky Music Educators Association Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2018 is Silver Creek Elementary School's Shannon Abney.  Mrs. Abney will be recognized for this high honor at the KMEA State Conference in February in Louisville. Congratulations Shannon Abney!

Board approves proposed rezoning plan

Madison County Schools Board of Education approved the proposed rezoning plan to take effect in August 2018. Assistant Superintendent Randy Neeley presented the plan and then answered questions from the Board members. The plan was approved with a vote of 4-1 with the opposing vote coming from Board Member Mary Renfro. The proposed plan includes the new zone for Boonesborough Elementary and outlines the changes for other elementary schools as well as the shift for middle schools.

 

Schools affected include: Boonesborough Elementary, White Hall Elementary, Glenn Marshall Elementary, Kit Carson Elementary, Daniel Boone Elementary, and Kirksville Elementary; as well as B. Michael Caudill Middle, Madison Middle, and Clark-Moores Middle.
