Here are the things that we will be targeting this week at school.  
A Peek at the Week

  • *      Phonics: Introduce letter Dd and its sound, review letters Oo, Rr, Gg, Ll, Aa, Pp, Cc, Tt, Hh, Ff, Ss, Mm and their sounds. Also, review and recite the alphabet.
    *      Handwriting: practice writing capital and lowercase Dd, Oo, Rr, Gg, Ll, Aa, Pp, Cc, Tt, Hh, Ff, Ss, and Mm, numbers 0-20, the correct way to write our FIRST and LAST NAMES (One capital letter and the rest lowercase, always start at the TOP.)
    *      Reading:
    o    Comprehension: make connections: background knowledge, review monitor understanding
    o    Vocabulary: chore, listen, community
    o    Phonics: Dd /d/
    o    Phonemic Awareness: word rhyming, phoneme matching
    o    Fluency: change your voice to reflect characters
    o    Listening: precise listening
    *      Writing:
    o    Process: editing
    o    Form: story
    o    Grammar: sentence structure: capitals, periods
    *      High Frequency/Sight Words: get, Mom, to, her, had, his, how, it, do, big, for, me, am, car, go, at, look, Dad, said, my, here, in, are, see, we, can, a, the, and, you, on, is, I, thisPlease, review these words with your child each night. Most of these words cannot be sounded out and must be recognized by sight. 
    *      Math: recognizing and writing numbers 0-20;  recognizing, making, and extending patterns; counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s to 100; recognizing domino patterns; recognizing ways to make 5
