Welcome to Sociology! Sociology is the systematic study of human society. This class is an elective class at Madison Central High School designed for juniors and seniors. The class will focus on studying sociology through a variety of concepts. Students may take Sociology I in the fall and/or Sociology II in the spring. Throughout the first semester, you should expect to cover the following topics: introduction to sociology and the connected theories (Chapter 1), sociological research (Chapter 2), culture (Chapter 3), deviance (Chapter 9), social stratification (Chapter 10) and sexuality (Chapter 8). Throughout the second semester, you should expect to cover the following topics: economy (Chapter 16) and politics and government (Chapter 17), families (Chapter 18), religion (Chapter 19), and education (Chapter 20). The main goal for this course is to help you gain a better understanding of our own society today, past societies and a modern global perspective on society as a whole.
