I am Ms. Jo Ponder, the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Foley Middle School in Berea, Ky. I am a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where I recieved a B.S. in FCS, an Endorsement in Special Education: Grades K-12, a Masrter's Degree in Educational Leadership and a Rank I.
I am a native of Harlan County, where I grew up in a very tight knit, small coal mining community. It was there that I learned that family values are the foundation on which we build our lives, and the compasion that humans have for each other is the cornerstone of a society.
My primary goals as a teacher are for each and every student to know that they are welcome in my classroom and for each student to learn the content which I teach! I honeslty believe that my content is some of the most important taught in the school systems across our nation! When we, as individuals, are able to establish and maintain: a happy, productive home and family life; a healthy and nutritionally balanced diet; are capable of budgeting the money we earn; and understand and practice healthy choices and refusal skills we are well on our way to having a successful and fullfilled life!
I have a great love for the field in which I teach. My belief is that our families create who we are, and that Nutrition is the key to good health. I have a goal to teach every child the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and the ways in which the abuse destroys the lives of not just those that abuse, but of those that care about the users. When a child leaves my class I want them to take with them the knowledge of what it takes to have a strong and healthy life!
I love what I do for a career, and the school in which I teach!
