The Kentucky School Breakfast Challenge was launched this year to help schools focus on increasing the participation in school breakfast. Students who eat breakfast show improved academic performance, but many students don't take advantage of the opportunity to eat breakfast at school. Schools measured the average daily student participation in the breakfast program during the month of September and compared that participation to the same month in 2013. The Kentucky Department of Education sponsored the breakfast challange in cooperation with the Southeast United Dairy Industry. Kirksville Elementary was recognized as a second place winner.
