Fall colored flowersFall Break for Madison County Schools is Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7. Schools and the district office will be closed on those days. Students do not have classes on Monday, Oct. 10. The day is a professional development day for staff.

Foley Middle hosting Grand Re-opening Celebration Foley Middle Open House

Foley Middle School is planning to show off its renovated facilities Oct. 4. The school is hosting a Grand Re-opening Celebration beginning at 6 p.m. A short program will feature past principals and faculty members. Tours of the building will follow.

MCS Earns Distinguished rating on Unbridled Learning Assessments

Kids are throwing colorful confetti into the air in celebration.Madison County Schools is pleased to announce that the district has earned a classification of “Distinguished” as a district on the 2015-2016 Unbridled Learning Assessments. The district moved up from a “Proficient” designation last year. The “Distinguished” designation means that Madison County Schools is performing among the top 10 percent of districts across the state.

BMCMS teacher chosen for national food safety and nutrition training program Teacher Lisa Chaffins chosen for national food safety and nutrition training program.

Lisa Chaffins, a teacher at B. Michael Caudill Middle School in was one of 32 teachers nationwide chosen to complete a food science training program developed and implemented in a partnership between the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), and Graduate School USA. The one-week program for middle and high school science teachers, as well as family and consumer science and health education teachers, took place in Washington this summer.

UPDATE:  Madison Middle's Brandi Smith has been selected as a Middle School Finalist. Congratulations to Ms. Smith! Winners from each gade level - elementary, middle and high - will be announced along with the overall winner at a ceremony at 10 a.m. Oct. 19 in Frankfort.


The Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline™ have selected 24 outstanding Kentucky educators as recipients of the 2017 Valvoline Teacher Achievement Awards (TAA). Two of the 24 are Madison County Schools teachers. Congratulations to Jennifer Farley of Farristown Middle and Brandi Smith of Madison Middle. These teachers qualify to compete for the 2017 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award, which will be announced next month.

FTMS Principal Receives Distinguished Principal Credential Alicia Hunter, Principal of Farristown Middle School

Madison County Schools is proud to announce that Farristown Middle Principal Alicia Hunter received the Distinguished Principal Credential from the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL). NISL implemented a national advanced credentialing system aiming to transforming the principalship in America. The initiative is being piloted in partnership with districts in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi under a 3-year, $11 million grant from the United States Department of Education’s Supporting Effective Educator Development (SEED) grant program.

Daniel Boone teacher Jill Van Dyke Receives Grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded Daniel Boone Elementary 2nd grade a $2,000 grant to support youth literacy.  This local grant is part of $4.5 million in youth literacy grants awarded to approximately 1,000 organizations across the 43 states that Dollar General serves. Given at the beginning of the academic school year, these grants are aimed at supporting teachers, schools and organizations with resources to strengthen and enhance literacy instruction.

Board of Education votes to purchase land for new elementary

Today's special called meeting of the Madison County Board of Education resulted in the unanimous vote to purchase 22 acres of land on Boonesborough Road in northern Madison County to build a new elementary school. This action is pending approval from the Kentucky Department of Education.

School Form Folders & Open House Information

#1 Parents can pick up student information folders beginning August 4th through 5th at the Daniel Boone Elementary front office from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

#2 Daniel Boone Open House will be Monday, August 8 from 5:30-7:30.  Come meet with your wonderful staff and new principal for the 2016-2017 school year.

MCS Dana Clark named Driver Trainer of the Year

Madison County Schools Head Driver Trainer Dana Clark was selected as Driver Trainer of the Year for the state of Kentucky. She received the award at the Driver Trainer Conference held in Louisville at the end of June. Dana has worked in the district’s transportation department for about 18 years.

Stakeholder Input Needed for New Daniel Boone Principal

Hello Daniel Boone families! We hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer break!

As you may have heard, Mr. Lakes has accepted a position as Director of Transportation for Madison County Schools. As the SBDM Council begins the process of selecting a new principal, we are asking for your input concerning skills and qualifications that you consider important in the next principal for Daniel Boone Elementary.

Congrats to White Hall Elementary & Madison Central High School Archery Teams placing 1st in World!  We are so proud of our archers and coaches!

White Hall Elementary Archery Team: 2016 National Champs

May 12-14, the 2016 NASP National Archery Tournment was held in Louisville, Kentucky.  White Hall Elementary School Archery Team, made history at this event.  This was the first Madison County School to bring home the national trophy. Archers from 909 schools in 41 states and Washington D.C. competed at the largest archery tournments.  


Vivian Bowles Named KGHS Teacher of the Year

More than 200 students from across the state attended the event where Vivian Bowles, teacher at Kit Carson Elementary School, was named KGHS Teacher of Year.

Daniel Boone library media specialist honored with website award

Daniel Boone Elementary Library Media Specialist Donna Morris was recently named the winner of the Central Kentucky Association of School Librarians (CKASL) Outstanding School Library Website Award. Donna was presented with her award by the CKASL President at the CKASL Spring Meeting at Garrard County High School Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Donna’s website was chosen as exemplary by a panel of her library peers for its visual appeal, engaging layout, plethora of resources for students, parents, and teachers, and navigational straightforwardness.

Summer Opportunities for Kids

As summer is quickly approaching, the district has created a page on its website for Summer Opportunities for Kids. This page includes everything from programming at the Madison County Public Library to baseball camps at Madison Central to weekly camps at St. Mark School to vacation bible schools. MCS Career Fair slated for April 7

Madison County Schools will be having a Career Fair on Thursday, April 7, 2016, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Glenn Marshall Elementary School (1442 Dr. Robert Martin ByPass, Richmond). You will have the opportunity to speak directly to our 17 School Principals and/or 12 Department Directors concerning the openings that we have available below. We encourage you to bring many copies of your resume and to arrive a little early.  We are expecting a great turn-out of people that want to join the Madison County Schools team.

Dates set for 2016 graduations

The Board of Education has set the graduation dates and times for both high schools. Madison Southern High School's graduation will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20. Madison Central High School's graduation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21. Both graduations will take place at Eastern Kentucky University's Alumni Coliseum.

MCS adds two names to list of NBCT in district

Madison County Schools would like to congratulate Tonya Conley of Kingston Elementary and Lauren Cain of White Hall Elementary on earning their National Board certification. Earning National Board certification is a lengthy, rigorous process, and requires a great deal of dedication to the teaching profession.

FMS teacher receives PBS Innovation Grant

Melissa Metcalf, science and math teacher at Foley Middle School, has been named a 2016 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator. Metcalf is among a diverse group of tech-savvy educators from across the country selected for her passion and commitment to innovative teaching practices that integrate digital media and technology in the classroom.

Kindergarten Registration Information

Kindergarten registration for the 2016-2017 school year will begin soon! If your child will be 5 on or before Oct. 1, 2016, s/he is eligible to start kindergarten this fall. MCHS hosting DanceBlue mini marathon

Madison Central High School will be hosting its first DanceBlue Mini Marathon April 30. DanceBlue is an organization sponsored by the University of Kentucky that raises money for pediatric cancer research. 

NTI:Madison Day 4 today

Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, is NTI: Madison Day 4 for MCS students. Students do not report to school. Please complete the work assigned for NTI Day 4. Teachers will be available throughout the day to answer questions.



  • Foley Middle Parent/Teacher Conferences have been rescheduled for Feb. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m.

  • The Global Competency and Literacy PD scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. at BMCMS has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled.

MSHS graduate to appear on Food Network's Cake Wars

Madison Southern High School graduate and Doodlebug Cakes owner Meghan Smith will be appearing on an episode of Food Network's "Cake Wars" Monday, Feb. 22. The episode will air at 9 p.m. On the episode, Smith is assisted by her mother Farristown Middle School teacher Cristi Simmons. If you would like to show your support for Meghan, you can do so on social media using the hashtags #cakewars and #doodlebugcakes or by Tweeting @foodnetwork and @doodlebugcake.

No School Friday, Jan. 22

School is cancelled Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. Please be safe as this winter storm approaches. Again, school is cancelled. Friday is not an NTI day.

NTI: Madison Day 2 on Monday, Jan. 25

Madison County Schools will have NTI: Madison Day 2 on Monday, Jan. 25, 2016. Students will not report to school on Monday. The district will have its second NTI Day instead of regular classes. Students should complete the NTI: Madison Day 2 assignments in their NTI packets. If you need additional information about NTI: Madison, click HERE. If you need assistance in completing assignments, you may e-mail teachers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Students will have seven days beginning the day we return to school to complete assignments from NTI: Madison Day 1 and Day 2.

Weekend Cancellations

Many activities, meetings, practices, and other events throughout the district are cancelled today. Those cancellations will be posted as they are received.

9 MCS teachers awarded Innovation Grants

Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass (BPBG) presented a $10,000 donation to Madison County Schools to fund innovative classroom activities focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Teachers from nine different schools will share the funds from BPBG for activities to promote student-centered learning.

MLK Day observed on Monday, Jan. 18

There will be no classes for students in Madison County Schools on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, in observance of Martin Luther King Day. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday.

Winter Weather Information

It's finally winter! The cold temperatures create a good time to remind parents about a few things:
1. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, the cancellation will be found on the district's website, social media pages, and on the local news outlets. If you see a social media friend post that school has been cancelled, please check one of the official sites to confirm. Those sites can be found by clicking these links:  Facebook or Twitter.
2. The district does use a delay system on occasion. If a delay is called and you need additional information, please click HERE.
3. This year, the district has the opportunity to use Non-Traditional Instructional Days (NTI: Madison). NTI days will be announced in the same way that cancelled or delayed days are announced. If you have not received information from your child's school, please contact them as soon as possible. Additional NTI: Madison can be found HERE.

MCHS band and chorus to perform "Songs of Joy"

The Madison Central High School band and chorus at Madison Central is performing a combined program at the EKU Center for the Arts called “Songs of Joy”. My School: Madison Southern High

Kicking off the year on August 13, Madison Southern High School had a senior-led pep rally, getting all students and faculty excited for the 2015-2016 school year. Currently, Madison Southern is both a Distinguished School and holds a 100 Percent College and Career Ready title. Southern is also under some renovations - since the beginning of August, construction has been ongoing beside the football field. Work continues on a new weightlifting room and also outdoor concession stand set to be completed in spring 2016.

NTI: Madison Information now available

Madison County Schools is fortunate to have been selected to participate in a Non-Traditional Instructional Day waiver. This means the district is eligible to designate 10 days as NTI Days during the 2015-2016 school year. A NTI Day can be used at the superintendent's discretion to accomodate for any unforeseen circumstance, such as inclement weather, excessive illness, or some other emergency that causes a cancellation of a regularly scheduled school day. Happy Thanksgiving! We hope everyone enjoys the holiday break. There is no school Wednesday through Friday -- Nov. 25 through 27. Classes will resume Monday, Nov. 30. Enjoy this festive time!

Voting Begins Today for Made by Milk Contest

The Made by Milk contest encourages students to build strong bones with milk and flex their creative muscles by repurposing milk cartons. Students from Foley Middle School's Sculpture Club have spent the last eight weeks after school working toward entering this nationwide contest.

My School: Silver Creek Elementary

Exciting things are happening in music education at Silver Creek Elementary! After a hiatus of a few years, the Bobcat Choir is back in action! In addition, we have started a brand new Violin Club at Silver Creek! Both groups are open to all fourth and fifth grade students.

My School: Kit Carson Elementary

Fifth grade students at Kit Carson Elementary School recently honored local veterans at our annual Veterans Day program. To prepare, students practiced singing patriotic songs in music, prepared to deliver speeches in language arts class, decorated stars in art and social studies, and wrote cards of thanks to veterans. During the program, students delivered speeches about the history of Veterans Day and sang patriotic songs. One student, Isaiah, accompanied some of the songs on his drum, while KC Handchimes played an Armed Forces Medley and God Bless America.

Honoring Officer Daniel Ellis Wednesday, Nov. 11

Funeral arrangements have been made for Officer Daniel Ellis. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 2 to 8 pm. at Alumni Coliseum on the EKU Campus. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, also at Alumni Coliseum.


In an effort to honor our fallen hero, Madison County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
