BASIC FUNCTION:

To provide services for Madison County Schools necessary to ensure a safe, healthy, wellmaintained learning and work physical environment which supports the educational process and facilitates student achievement. These services include: facility construction and renovation, building and building system maintenance, grounds and paving maintenance, custodial services, transportation services, technology services, and food services.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Work closely with school building principals on facility matters.
  • Supervises all aspects of major renovations and new construction of schools and facilities to include budget information, design consultant selection, design reviews, plans and specification reviews, Board approval of project, solicitation of KDE approvals, requests for bids, contract awards and construction management, which includes biweekly progress meetings and change order processing.
  • Oversees the District’s Pupil Transportation Program that includes fleet scheduled and unscheduled maintenance , vehicle replacement, operator training, establishment of routes and stops, and pick-up/drop-off times.
  • Oversees the District’s Food Service Program to include menu selection, meal production planning and scheduling, procurement, adherence to nutrition and sanitation regulations and requirements, and appealing presentation on the serving line while operating as an enterprise fund.
  • Personally inspect buildings for cleanliness, quality assurance and safety compliance.
  • Conduct custodial training to ensure standardization of performance at each facility.
  • Monitor custodial performance and make corrective actions as necessary.
  • Coordinate requests for custodial services for after hour functions.
  • Recommend Custodial work schedules.
  • Supervise head custodians.
  • Conduct custodial equipment inspections and determines/approves equipment needs
  • Supervise usage of campus storage facilities
  • Assist in the enforcement of all safety rules and safety programs.
  • Plans, organizes efficient maintenance and repair of District building and facilities, coordinates and oversees day-to-day maintenance activities
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned maintenance and skilled trades staff; assigns and reviews work and participates in the selection of new personnel as assigned.
  • Develops and prepares work schedules; reviews maintenance reports and work orders; prioritizes and coordinates duties and assignments to assure effective workflow and facilitates operations; coordinates responses to emergency calls
  • Conducts inspections of buildings and facilities to determine maintenance and repair needs and quality of work performed: recommends removal of fire, safety or health hazards including asbestos-related issues; instructs staff in safe work practices.
  • Participates in the establishment and implementation of a systematic preventive maintenance program; investigates vandalism as necessary.
  • Assists in determining needed equipment, materials and supplies for the district maintenance operations; requisitions a wide variety of supplies, maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Communicates with vendors, contractors, and inspectors regarding maintenance and construction operations and activities, materials, specifications, scheduling district policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintains all district-owned equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance.
  • Conforms to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation
  • Submits all reports to the Executive Director, who will forward them as required by state
  • Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Superintendent.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Laws, rules, regulations and guidelines governing student transportation.
  • Applicable district, state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to food service.
  • Requirements of a variety of training programs.
  • Principles and practices of supervision and training.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic methods involving budget monitoring and control.

 

ABILITY TO:

  • Plan and direct training programs.
  • Plan and approve transportation routes and bus stops.
  • Assure department meets legal requirements concerning student transportation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate personnel. 
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Communicate effectively with those contacted in the course of work within and outside the District.
  • Coordinate and disseminate information.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters Degree in related field or School Leadership
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in facilities management, transportation management, construction management, or food service management, or a combination of thereof. (preferred)

 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Kentucky driver's license.
