Kentucky School Security Marshall

Madison County Schools is fortunate to have the Kentucky Office of State School Security Marshal right here in our county. This office is housed at Eastern Kentucky University's Department of Criminal Justice Training along with the Center for School Safety. The School Security Marshal's office is responsible for helping districts and schools enhance safety measures and initiatives, offering safety training for school staff, offering a security risk assessment tool to districts and schools, and ensuring compliance with the School Safety and Resilience Act.

Handle With Care

Madison County Schools has been participating in the Handle With Care program since the 2017-2018 school year. Handle With Care is a program that allows the district and schools to partner and collaborate with local law enforcement agencies. When children or teens are present at an incident that involves law enforcement, Handle With Care provides the school district with notification of these incidents. Incidents can include a vehicle accident, the arrest of an adult in the presence of the child, domestic violence, and others. These incidents can be traumatic for the child or teen involved. Handle With Care gives Madison County Schools the opportunity to provide additional support to that child immediately following the incident. Information gathered and shared by law enforcement includes the child's name, school, age, and grade.
